Local musicians and oral historians in Yellowknife, Hay River, and the Sahtu region encounter compliance barriers when attempting to deposit recordings with external platforms. Canadian copyright rules intersect with territorial Indigenous knowledge protocols, requiring separate consent documentation that standard grant templates do not address.
Funding covers equipment meeting federal digital preservation standards and contributes to bandwidth costs for upload windows scheduled during stable satellite periods. Applicants must attach letters from both the territorial archivist and the relevant Indigenous government confirming dual consent pathways.
